Undergraduate Research

Funding in the form of salary awards, travel grants, and recognition awards is available to support undergraduate students engaged in research. Calls for these opportunities are distributed by email. For more information, please contact Gen Clark.

Interdisciplinary Summer Research Program

This program provides undergraduate student salary awards for 10- to 16-week summer research projects, which can be design to work around practice rotations. Each project is co-supervised by faculty from at least two of the following colleges: Medicine, Pharmacy and Nutrition, Nursing, and Kinesiology. Students gain hands-on experience working across disciplines. Supervisors and students apply together. The application deadline is in late February.

Tri-Council Summer Student Research Awards

Students who successfully secure a Tri-Council Summer Student Research Award are eligible for supplemental funding from the College and their supervisor. This ensures recipients receive a competitive summer salary. Applications are due in early February, and further details are available here.

Applied Physiology, Nutrition, and Metabolism (APNM) Undergraduate Research Excellence Award and Isabel Irwin Undergraduate Research Award

These paired awards recognize the research achievements of a fourth-year undergraduate Nutrition student. The recipient receives a $300 cash award plus a one-year subscription to the APNM journal. Students must be nominated by their supervisor, and nominations are due in mid-February.

CSPS National Undergraduate Student Research Awards

This award supports an undergraduate pharmacy student attending the Canadian Society for Pharmaceutical Sciences Annual Symposium. The recipient receives a $1,000 travel grant and complimentary conference registration. They also present a research poster at the symposium, which is published in the Journal of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences. Supervisors must submit nominee information and a draft poster abstract in mid-February.

AFPC/CCPE Pharmacy Student Research Poster Award

This award is open to both undergraduate and graduate pharmacy students to attend the annual AFPC/CCPE conference. It provides a $1,500 travel grant, complimentary conference registration, and a ticket to the awards banquet. Supervisors must submit nominee information and a draft poster abstract in mid-February.
