The 22nd International Social Pharmacy Workshop

The conference was held July 7th-11th, 2024 at the Banff Centre

The 22nd International Social Pharmacy Workshop (ISPW) conference was held July 7th-11th, 2024 at the Banff Centre; this was the first time ISPW was ever held in Canada

The University of Saskatchewan College of Pharmacy & Nutrition co-hosted the conference with the University of Alberta Faculty of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences, with Jason Perepelkin (USask) & Lisa Guirguis (UAlberta) co-chairing the conference. Over the 2 years leading up to ISPW 2024 Lisa and Jason put in hundreds of hours planning this conference.

The theme for ISPW 2024 was Reaching New Heights: Expanding Pharmacy Practice. Over 3.5 days delegates attended presentations and participated in workshops; the complete schedule is available by visiting the ISPW 2024 website, which also includes an abstract booklet of all presentations and workshops.

ISPW is truly a grassroots effort as no one organization owns it, it is put on by dedicated academics who ‘pitch’ hosting the conference. In July 2022, at the end of the ISPW 2022 conference the pitch was for UAlberta and USask to co-host the event in Banff, Alberta and the pitch was successful. At the end of ISPW 2024 the successful pitch was from a delegation from Cork, Ireland who proposed hosting the event at the University College Cork.

Attendees came from across the world including:

  • Canada
  • US
  • Australia
  • Sierra Leone
  • Denmark
  • Sweden
  • Ireland
  • Thailand
  • Belgium
  • New Zealand
  • United Kingdom
  • Indonesia
  • Iraq
