Saskatchewan alumnus wins 2015 Pillar of Pharmacy Award

Canadian Foundation for Pharmacy Announces 2015 Pillar of Pharmacy Award

Toronto – The Canadian Foundation for Pharmacy (CFP) is pleased to name pharmacist Darcy Stann as the 2015 Pillar of Pharmacy Award recipient for his longstanding commitment to the pharmacy profession in Canada.

As principal of his own consulting business, Firebird Management Consulting Group, Darcy is recognized as an industry leader in Western Canada for using innovative practice designs to further business development and professional services. In addition to providing business consulting services for various clients, he plays an active role in negotiating changes to pharmacy reimbursement systems with three provincial governments and the Federal Health Partnership.

“In support of the profession, Darcy has always generously shared his time and knowledge of pharmacy practice, community pharmacy economics, government relations and pharmacy legislation,” writes Margaret Wing, CEO of the Alberta Pharmacists’ Association (RxA), in a letter of support. “His contributions are broad reaching and have resulted in the advancement of business modeling for core dispensing, and the introduction of new professional services funding across multiple provinces.”

Darcy was a lead advisor to RxA during recent negotiations with Alberta Health and Alberta Blue Cross that resulted in a landmark agreement that will further expand the Compensation Plan for pharmacy services, and will introduce a new Alberta Blue Cross Pharmaceutical Provider Services Agreement for community pharmacies. He was also an important leader in the provincial government negotiation processes that resulted in Alberta pharmacists being the first in Canada to participate as providers for public influenza vaccinations.

Prior to starting his own consulting business, Darcy spent 16 years working in regulatory affairs and helping to facilitate the development of unique service offerings in Safeway Pharmacies. He holds an undergraduate degree in Pharmacy from the University of Saskatchewan, and a Master's degree in Business Administration from the University of Calgary.

“Given Darcy’s long-term commitment to moving the profession forward, the Foundation is honoured to recognize him with this prestigious award,” says CFP Executive Director Dayle Acorn. “We are confident that he will continue to impact the profession in a positive way for many years to come.”

In receiving the Pillar of Pharmacy, Darcy joins a group of other distinguished past winners who have contributed to the successful evolution of pharmacy in Canada. Stann’s ongoing leadership and various contributions to the pharmacy profession will be formally recognized at an upcoming gala dinner Tuesday March 24th at the Sheraton Cavalier Calgary Hotel.
