March is Pharmacist Awareness Month
March is Pharmacist Awareness Month and CAPSI University of Saskatchewan is holding a number of events throughout the month.
The schedule include public awareness events to help people understand what pharmacists can do for them, social and professional events for students, and information sessions for prospective students.
PAM Kick-off/Ribbon Cutting
Monday, March 2, at 12:30 pm in the E-Wing Atrium
Everyone is encouraged to wear their “DRUGS” clothing, and there will be a short address from Dean Wasan, Associate Dean Shevchuk and local CAPSI representatives followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony to kickoff the start of PAM. Refreshments will be provided.

These community outreach booths are a joint effort between pharmacy students and practicing pharmacists to inform and educate the public about healthcare and more specifically the role of pharmacists and our expanded scope.
Admissions Night
Thursday, March 5, at 5:30 pm in 2130 E-Wing Health Sciences
This event is targeted towards high school and university students interested in becoming pharmacists. Diane Favreau will be speaking about admission requirements and pharmacy students of all years will be there to speak about their experiences applying to the college. These volunteers will also be helping the Pre-Pharmacy club with drop in sessions the week before the Test of Critical Skills.
Mentorship Night
Tuesday, March 10, at 5:30 pm in D-Wing Atrium
This event will follow a “speed dating” style where pharmacist and dietitian mentors will meet and discuss with students their fields of practice, and the paths they have taken in their careers. This event encourages networking among mentors and students as well as bonding within the college as pharmacy students meet with dietitians and nutrition students meet with pharmacists.
Mock OSCEs
Monday, March 9, & Thursday, March 12 in 2130 Health Sciences
These mock OSCEs are designed to simulate the graded OSCEs that will be happening for second and third year pharmacy students. In these events, student volunteers design practice cases. Third years will be mentors for the second year event and second years will be patients for the third year event.
Mr. Pharmacy Pageant
Friday, March 13, at 6:30 pm at Louis
This is CAPSI’s largest charity event, last year raising ~$3000 for the Core Neighborhood Youth Coop. Males of the college volunteer to participate in this pageant, which includes a skills competition, formal wear, question period and talent competition. Judges include various members of the faculty. This year, all proceeds are going to JDRF (the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation).
BBIF Interprofessional Symposia
Tuesday, March 17, at 5 pm in 1150 Health Sciences
CAPSI is teaming up with HSSA and CMFS to put on this evening symposium about interprofessional healthcare teams. The event is being promoted to all health science students. CAPSI’s goal of this event is to demonstrate where pharmacists fit in to these teams. Food will be served at this event.
CAPSI Sports Night
Friday, March 27, at 7 pm at Marion M. Graham Collegiate
As PAM comes to a close, and finals are right around the corner, this fun event brings together student and faculty in teams of 6 to battle each other in volleyball, dodge ball and soccer. There will be food and refreshments.
