The Emeritus Membership Award is the highest level of recognition that Dietitians of Canada can bestow upon a retired member of the association who has made meritorious contributions throughout their career.
Whiting’s nominators described her as one of Canada’s leading nutrition scholars, an internationally recognized authority in vitamin D and calcium supplementation, and an esteemed dietetics educator.
Her 30-year career is defined by her commitment to improving health and preventing disease through nutrition research and critical evidence-based appraisal, publishing over 225 peer-reviewed research articles and contributing to health-enhancing policy changes.
A member of Dietitians of Canada since 1985, she has been a mentor to hundreds of nutrition and dietetic students. She is a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences and was recognized with career achievement awards from the Canadian Nutrition Society and the Saskatchewan Health Research Foundation.
A video from Dr. Jessica Lieffers (PhD), one of Whiting’s nominators, is available on the Dietitians of Canada website and describes why she was nominated for this award.
