Undergraduate Student Awards

The recipient of the Beverley Edwin Allen Award is Vancy To. This award was established by Mr. Beverly Allen, BSP 1973 and assistant professor in the College of Pharmacy and Nutrition for nearly 20 years. The award is to provide financial assistance to undergraduate pharmacy students associated with extraordinary expenses during their final Experiential Learning rotations and to recognize students actively involved in volunteering within the community or the pharmacy profession.


The recipients of the Elaine Atkinson Memorial Bursary are Amou Madol and Brandon McKimmon.  This award is presented to a student entering the first year of the Pharmacy program and was established in memory of Elaine Atkinson (nee Kenaschuk), BSP 1960.

  


The recipient of the Victor Bartle Bursary is Amit Gupta. This award is established by Mr. Victor Bartle, BSP 1963 and is presented to a pharmacy student based on financial need.

 


The recipient of the Rose Baru Prize is Harkirt Chahal. This award is presented to a student based on high marks in dispensing and is given from the estate of Rose Dora Baru.

 


The recipient of the Dr. Shawna Berenbaum Scholarship for Excellence in Nutrition & Dietetics is Karlee Schoff. This award recognizes Dr. Berenbaum, a former professor in the College of Pharmacy and Nutrition and dietitian who has made outstanding contributions to the dietetics profession and education of students in the field. It is awarded to a student with highest academic standing in Nutrition 350.

  


The recipient of the Ross Blackburn Tribute to Family Award is Jonathan Rekve.  This award is made annually to a Pharmacy student who has a dependent child or children, a sound academic standing and who exemplifies dedication to College spirit. The award honours the memory of Mr. Ross Blackburn, son of Jim and Shirley Blackburn, and a well-respected colleague at GlaxoSmithKline.

 


The recipient of the Theodora Bryce Book Prize (Nutrition and Dietetics) is Mark Thomas.  This prize is awarded to the first-year Nutrition student who obtained the highest grade in Professional Practice I.  It is given in memory of Professor Theodora Bryce and recognizes her interest in excellence in written communication.

 


The recipients of the Dr. Helen E. Clark Bursary are Elise Bourgeois and Caitlin Birkenshaw.  This award is donated by Dr. Helen Clark and is open to students in third or fourth year Nutrition based on demonstrated need and academic achievement.         

  


The recipient of the Joyce Collins Entrance Bursary is Jennifer Anderson. This award is given to a student entering the first year of the B.Sc.(Nutr.) program. It was created by family to honour the memory of Joyce (Johnson) Collins, a graduate of the College of Household Science, Class of 1941.

 


The recipient of the Ronald Currie Award is Brooke Gessner.  The Health Sciences Association presents this award in the name of Ron Currie.  It is awarded for outstanding leadership to the student body of the College or to Canadian pharmacy students.

 


The recipients of the Adelaide Dodds Bursary are Maranda Bilyk and Salma Rashad. This bursary is awarded to a student in the B.Sc.(Nutr.) program who has completed at least one year of study based on academic achievement and financial need.

 


The recipient of the Bert Duncan Memorial Scholarship is Amnah Al-Heetimi.  It is awarded to the student with the greatest academic achievement between second and third year of the pharmacy program.  The award, in memory of Mr. Bert Duncan, Class of 1937, is made available from a fund provided by his colleagues, family and friends.


The recipient of the Douglas L. Gibson Award is Brooke Webster.  This award is made to a fourth-year Nutrition student in recognition of academic achievement.  It is given to honor the memory of Dr. Doug Gibson who served as Dean of the College of Home Economics and was keenly involved in international nutrition programs.

The Hannon Scholarships are awarded to students based on high academic standing and involvement in university, college or community activities in the B.Sc.(Nutr.) program, and are also available to Honors and Advanced English, Home Economics Education and pre-Theology students. The recipient of the Dorothy Homstol Memorial Scholarship is Maya Rattanavong. The family and friends of the late Dorothy Homstol (nee Driedger), B.S.P., established a fund to provide an award available to a third year female student in the Pharmacy program based on scholarship and leadership.

  


The recipient of the Dennis and Sharon Johnson Family College of Pharmacy and Nutrition Huskie Hockey Scholarship is Kennedy Brown. This award goes to a pharmacy or nutrition student who is also a member of a Huskie hockey team.

 


 The recipient of the Jack Kay, President, Apotex Inc. Scholarship is Stephanie O’Byrne. This award is provided by Mr. Jack Kay, President of Apotex Inc. and a leader in the Canadian Pharmaceutical industry, to students in the Pharmacy program who have demonstrated academic excellence and leadership skills in their academic or personal lives.

 


The recipient of the Chandra K. Khandelwal Memorial Scholarship is Maisy Hrischuk.  The Khandelwal Family offers a scholarship in memory of their daughter, Chandra, a third-year Pharmacy student who was a victim of the Air India disaster of 1985.  It is awarded annually to a female Pharmacy student with high standing in Biomedical Sciences 200.3 and 230.3.

 


 The recipient of the Don Klatt Memorial Prize is Kayla Bannouvong. This award is presented to a deserving student based on proficiency in pharmacy management. This award is established in the memory of Donald Klatt, BSP 1971.

 


The recipients of the Charles Henry Kouri Memorial Scholarship are Maddy Owens, Natalie Ecobichon, and Taylor Kozun. This award is presented to a deserving student in pharmacy based on academic achievement and is established in the memory of Charles Henry Kouri, BSP 1957.

  


The recipient of the Agnes Kurtz Book Prize is Meg Fotheringham. Members of the Saskatchewan Dietitians Association have provided the book prize in honor of the memory of Aggie Kurtz, an active member of the SDA who was instrumental in the development of the first hemodialysis unit in Regina.  The award is made to the student who obtained the highest grade in the Nutrition Throughout the Lifecycle course.

The recipient of the James A. Lackey Bursary is Kathryn Neville. The late James A. Lackey, Ph.C. 1917, has provided funds in honor of the memory of the first Dean of Pharmacy, Alexander Campbell.  A bursary is awarded annually to a student who has completed the third year of the Pharmacy program based on scholarship and other factors.

 


The recipients of the London Drugs Bursary are Taylor Palik and Nadia Rybalka. This award is made available by London Drugs Limited and demonstrates a commitment to the communities they serve. It is awarded to a student pursuing a Pharmacy or Nutrition degree and is based on financial need.

 


The recipients of the Dean W.C. MacAulay Memorial Bursaries are listed as follows.  A fund provided in memory of Dean W.C. MacAulay by his friends and former students provides the award of 8 bursaries to deserving students who have completed at least one year of the Pharmacy program.

The recipient of the Doreen Machula Memorial Award is Kelly Shepherd.  This award is presented to a pharmacy student with top marks in patient counselling.


The recipient of the Ariel Milne Scholarship is Nadia Anvari.  The Milne Scholarship is awarded to the Nutrition student who obtained a high standing in the first year of the nutrition program.  The award is given by the Saskatchewan Dietitian Association in memory of a long-time member and contributor to the Dietetics profession, Mrs. Ariel Milne.


The recipient of the Della Morgan Bursary in Pharmacy is Sydney Inman.  The bursary is awarded to a Pharmacy student based on a number of criteria including financial need.

 


The recipient of the Paul and Doreen Ortynsky Leadership Award is Lexi Pflanzner.  This award is presented to a Pharmacy student based on community and/or college involvement and leadership.  This award is established in memory of Paul J.E. Ortynsky, PHARM 1949, and Doreen Ortynsky in recognition of their commitment to their community and to the pharmacy they ran together.

 


The recipients of the Trent Paul Memorial Award in Pharmacy are Lauren Lueken and Celynn Elder.  This award is presented to a student based on leadership and/or involvement in the community, college, or university. This award is established in memory of Trent Paul, BSP 2006, who had just begun contributing to the pharmacy profession and healthcare in rural Saskatchewan.

 


The recipient of the Pereverzoff Prize is Kassy Strautman.  An endowment fund has been provided by the Peter Pereverzoff Family of Rosthern for this award to recognize excellence in Community Pharmacy Practice.

 


The recipient of the Dr. Alfred Remillard Scholarship in Pharmacy Mental Health is Kaitlyn Baldwin. This award is open to a current third or fourth pharmacy student based on academics and demonstrated scholarly activity in the area of mental health. This award is given in honor of Dr. Alfred Remillard, a former College of Pharmacy and Nutrition professor and pharmacist who made outstanding contributions in the area of pharmacy mental health.

 


The recipients of the Saskatchewan College of Pharmacy Professionals Bursaries are Sheree Zoerb and Marina DaSilva.  The Saskatchewan College of Pharmacy Professionals offers two bursaries to students who have completed at least one academic year of the Pharmacy program based on scholarship and other factors.

  


The recipients of the Saskatchewan Dietitians Association Scholarships are Kylie Bell and Melissa Brausse.  This scholarship is awarded to two students entering the practicum year of the B.Sc.(Nutr.) program based on specified Nutrition courses.

  


The recipient of the Joanne Condon Schweitzer Scholarship in Nutrition is Lauren Hundseth.  This award, which is based on academic excellence, is established in honour of Joanne Condon Schweitzer, a graduate of the College of Home Economics class of 1983 and a Registered Dietitian.

 


The Shoppers Drug Mart Commitment to the Profession Awards are provided by Shoppers Drug Mart to students entering second, third and fourth year of the Pharmacy program recognizing academic achievement and involvement in the profession of pharmacy through their participation in professional activities or in activities which enhance or promote the profession. The recipient of the Ben Shore Bursary is Stefanie Kiriazopoulos.  The family of Ben Shore, Ph.C. 1932, has made available the Ben Shore Bursary in his memory.  It is awarded to a third-year Pharmacy student with the highest standing in Pharmacy 121 and Pharmacy 123.

 


The recipient of the Percy Shore Memorial Bursary is Scott Jones.  This bursary is made available from the estate of Mr. Percy Shore, Ph.C. 1935, to a student with the highest mark in the second-year Pharmaceutics course, Pharmacy 224.


The recipient of the Euphie Thomson Book Prize is Taylor Henry.  This prize is awarded to the Nutrition student with the highest standing in Advanced Nutrition. The award is given in honor of the late Euphie Thomson, Dietitian and Honorary Life Member of the Association of Saskatchewan Home Economists.


The recipient of the Sylvia Wallace Memorial Scholarship is Julie Lamothe.  This award recognizes academic performance in pharmaceutics and pharmacokinetics and has been made available by donations from family and friends of Dr. Sylvia Wallace, who was a Professor of Pharmacy (Biopharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics) in the College of Pharmacy and Nutrition, and Associate Vice-President (Academic) at the University of Saskatchewan.

 


The recipient of the Dr. Susan Whiting Award for Excellence in Nutrition is Lauren Thompson. The award recognizes Dr. Susan Whiting, a distinguished professor of nutrition at the University of Saskatchewan who retired in 2019. She has made outstanding contributions in shaping young research scientists, including the preparation of undergraduate students. Dr. Whiting received numerous award recognizing her mentorship, nationally and internationally recognized research contributions, and service to the Nutrition field. The award is given to a second year Nutrition student to recognize academic excellence and research potential.

 


The Bill and Sharon Wilson Practice Experience Fund was established by Mr. Bill Wilson, BSP 1969 to provide financial support to assist undergraduate students in their final year with costs associated with their pharmacy practical experience rotations or nutrition practicums. The recipient of the Dean E.L. Woods Memorial Bursary is Lauren Lueken.  This bursary is awarded to a student who has completed at least one year of the Pharmacy program and is based on scholarship, leadership, aptitude in pharmacy and financial need.


The recipient of the Hayley Wilcock Wourms Memorial Scholarship in Nutrition is Jordyn Grantham. This award was established by the College of Pharmacy and Nutrition, with family, friends, and classmates, in memory of Hayley Wilcock Wourms. It goes to a current 3rd year Nutrition student based on not only academic achievement, but to someone who has also outlined his or her involvement in global health initiatives, the community, and/or professional dietetics and nutrition programs/organizations.

 


The recipient of the Darcy Zadvorny Student Fellowship Award is Emma Fedusiak.  This award is made to a Pharmacy student to recognize the commitment to enhancing the comradery and culture of the College of Pharmacy and Nutrition.  It is given to honor the memory of Darcy Zadvorny (BSP ’04) who was actively involved in the SPNSS, as well as volunteering in countless ways in the service of his fellow students. Darcy was instrumental in organizing many athletic and social events that improved student life away from their academic lives.

 


The recipient of the Donald Zuck Family Bursary in Pharmacy is Hammad Kazani.  The Donald Zuck Family provides awards for students entering the second year of the Pharmacy program.

 


The University of Saskatchewan Scholarships and the University Undergraduate Scholarships are awarded to students in recognition of outstanding scholastic achievement.

The recipient of the CPhA Centennial Award is Lauren Lueken. This scholarship is given jointly by the Canadian Pharmacists Association and the Saskatchewan College of Pharmacy Professionals  The award enables a third-year pharmacy student to join with students from other Faculties of Pharmacy in Canada in attending the annual meeting of the CPhA. It is awarded for academic performance and outstanding contribution to the undergraduate life of the College.
