Staff Spotlight: Shannon Wiens

Shannon joined the College of Pharmacy and Nutrition in the role of Administration and Planning Specialist in May of 2015.

As her title suggests her role is to provide high level administrative, planning and project management leadership and expertise in the college.  Shannon came to the college with years of experience and connections in both college and service units across campus, most recently from the vice president’s office where she reported directly to the president.

Some of her more notable accomplishments since joining the college have been her leadership in the phased moves of our college from the Thorvaldson Building to the Health Sciences Building, the ongoing cleanup and withdrawal of our college from Thorvaldson, her ongoing work on the Health Science A-Wing plans, in preparation for our final college move in the summer of 2019 and her expertise, advice and insights in the human resource function in the college.

Her behind-the-scenes efforts to be sure that everyone has what they need to be successful in their roles is extremely valuable.  Whether it be setting up a pharmacy teaching lab for dual teaching responsibilities, outfitting the Foods and Nutrition Lab with exceptional equipment at reduced pricing, acquiring new college copy machines at no cost, computer upgrades, proper lighting, air quality, ergonomic requirements, even office shelving and building access, she is always watching for cost effective ways to improve the overall function of college operations.

Outside of work, Shannon is family focussed. She keeps busy with her two grown sons, their activities, careers and moves, while balancing aging parents and their needs who, thankfully, live close by.

She and her husband, Brad, enjoy travel and adventure, and very much look forward to briefly escaping the Saskatchewan winters each year. Interestingly enough, after having been away, they enjoy coming home just as much as getting away!
