Dennis Gorecki, former Dean of the College of Pharmacy and Nutrition, has been awarded the 2015 CPhA Meritorious Service Awards. This award recognizes service to the pharmacy profession such that it brings credit and prestige to the profession.

From the CPhA website:

“Dennis Gorecki has been a key visionary in setting directions for the future of the health workforce in Canada. His contributions to the Blueprint for Pharmacy have played a major contributing role in the success of the Blueprint and many of its deliverables.

Representing the Association of Deans of Pharmacy of Canada (ADPC) on the national Blueprint for Pharmacy Taskforce and the Moving Forward Pharmacy Human Resources Study, Dennis has been a leader for the Blueprint project since its inception. In his role of Chair of the Blueprint for Pharmacy Steering Committee (BPSC) from 2010-2014, Dennis facilitated the achievement of many practice research and innovative practice projects, as well as educational projects and the development of practice tools that will ultimately enhance the pharmacy profession.

Under his leadership, the BPSC brought the profession together to put the Blueprint plan into action. Key progress was made during his tenure as Chair, including a systematic sequencing of priorities, consolidating collaborative efforts, communicating practice change and targeting investments in key initiatives. Dennis also contributed greatly to the Blueprint fundraising campaign, which raised $1 million in new funding for projects and advocacy initiatives to help evolve the practice of pharmacy and improve patient care.

Dennis is a graduate of the BSP and PharmD (Pharmacy) degrees from the University of Saskatchewan, where he served as Dean of Pharmacy and Nutrition from 1998-2009. He is a distinguished researcher and has published over 100 research articles, abstracts and technical reports. He has served as the president of ADPC and the Canadian Council for the Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs and chairperson of the Health Sciences Deans at the University of Saskatchewan. Dennis was the first and only Canadian to date to act as Chair of the Division of Standards Development Executive Committee for the United States Pharmacopeia.”
