Dean Wasan selected for Prix Galien Canada Jury

Dr. Kishor Wasan, Professor and Dean of the College of Pharmacy and Nutrition, has been selected as the newest jury member for the Prix Galien Canada. He will replace Dr. Jim Blackburn, former Dean of Pharmacy and Nutrition, as the prairie representative on the jury.

“As the retiring member of the jury was Dr. Blackburn, a pharmacist from Saskatchewan, we wished to replace him with another prairie senior pharmacy academic,” said Dr. Jean Gray, President of the Jury. “After appropriate consideration of the individuals in that category, Dr. Wasan's name was the unanimous choice of the jury.”

The Prix Galien Canada is the most prestigious award in the field of Canadian pharmaceutical research and innovation. Referred to as the “Nobel Prize” of pharmaceutical research, it recognizes the efforts and achievements of pharmaceutical research and development. The award originated in France, and it was first awarded in Canada in 1994.

“Kish’s outstanding research career in the pharmaceutical sciences has put him in ongoing contact and involvement with Canada’s scientists in the field,” said Dr. Blackburn, outgoing jury member. “He is up to date in the latest developments in innovative drug therapy, and I am delighted to receive notification of his appointment to the jury.”

The Prix Galien Canada has two awards: the Research Award and the Innovative Product Award.  The Research Award is presented to the researcher or the research team judged by the jury to have made the most significant contribution to pharmaceutical research in Canada. The Innovative Product Award is presented to the company that has developed a drug product launched on the Canadian market and judged by the selection committee to have made the most significant overall contribution to patient care in Canada in terms of efficacy, safety, benefits, and innovation.

The Prix Galien Canada is a branch of Innovation Life Canada, which recognizes and promotes innovation in life sciences as a generator of collective wealth and Canadian social values.
