Congratulations to Pharmacy and Nutrition's 2015 Dean's Scholarship (Round 1) Recipients
Please join the College of Pharmacy and Nutrition in congratulating Kiday Haileslassie and Shenzhen Yao, who have both been awarded the 2015 Dean’s Scholarship!
This three-year entrance scholarship, which is awarded based on academic excellence and research potential, is one of the most prestigious scholarships offered by the University of Saskatchewan.
Kiday will be joining us in January or May to begin his PhD studies in Nutrition under the supervision of Dr. Carol Henry. He brings significant research experience to his new role, having completed a Master’s degree in Human Nutrition from Hawassa University and worked as a lecturer and researcher at Mekelle University, both in Ethiopia. For his PhD research, Kiday will be working on a food security project addressing malnutrition in Northern Ethiopia through new product development, which will be carried out in partnership by the Colleges of Pharmacy and Nutrition and Agriculture & Bioresources, U of S, and Mekelle University.
Shenzhen, one of the College's current students, is in the final stages of completing the degree requirements for his Master’s program in Pharmacy and is planning to start his PhD studies in May. Under the supervision of Dr. Dave Blackburn, Shenzhen has already published two first-author journal articles from his Master’s research and has excelled academically. Shenzhen’s PhD research will once again be carried out under Dr. Blackburn's supervision and will investigate the outcomes of prescription drug use among Saskatchewan residents.
