Congratulations to our 2014-2015 Fall Award Recipients

The College of Pharmacy and Nutrition is pleased to announce the recipients of our 2014-2015 Fall Awards:

Krysta Currie and Katherine Lysak were the recipients of the two F.J. Fear Postgraduate Scholarships, which are awarded to University of Saskatchewan graduates entering their first year of graduate studies in Pharmacy. Krysta was also the recipient of the Ramsey Postgraduate Fellowship, which was established by the Ramsey family to encourage B.S.P graduates from the U of S to go on to a post-graduate program and advance the profession of pharmacy. Katherine also received the Alf Pepper Research Award, which is offered to a graduate of the B.S.P. program in honour of Alf Pepper, a 1934 graduate of the College. This award is offered yearly thanks to the Saskatchewan College of Pharmacists’ Centennial Scholarship Fund. Both Krysta and Katherine started their programs with Dr. Derek Jorgenson this September.

Rahul Jain is the recipient of the Ford Postgraduate Scholarship, which was established from a bequest from Marguerite Ford, wife of Winnard Ford, founder of Ford Pharmacies. This award supports students who are pursuing studies related to community pharmacy; Rahul is working with Dr. Roy Dobson to investigate the impact of Prescriptive Authority Services on the traditional practices and workload of community pharmacists.

Rashmi Patil and Omar Abuhussein, who are both studying under the supervision of Dr. Jian Yang, were recognized for their academic excellence with the two Shoppers Drug Mart Dean’s Trust Scholarships, which are made possible by a donation from Shoppers Drug Mart Inc. to the College of Pharmacy and Nutrition. Rashmi was also the recipient of the Sanofi Graduate Scholarship in Pharmacy, a bursary awarded to an entering student that the College is able to offer thanks to Sanofi’s sponsorship of the award.

Noura Shiekhalzoor (supervisor: Dr. Shawna Berenbaum) and Leandy Riley (supervisor: Dr. Carol Henry) were selected to share the Elizabeth Helen McLeod Scholarship this year. This award was established by the family of Mrs. Elizabeth Helen McLeod to honour her memory and provide an annual scholarship to a student or students studying in the area of human nutrition in the College. Noura was also the recipient of the Mary Isabel Irwin Scholarship, which honours the memory of Dr. Mary Isabel Irwin, a noted researcher in the field of home economics.

The College would like to acknowledge the very generous donations that allow our Fall Awards to be offered; each year they allow the College to recognize several exceptional students and support them in their important research. Congratulations to all of this year’s award recipients!
