Injection Training Information

This section contains information on:

  • Advanced Method Certification (AMC)
  • Advanced Method Student Certification (AMSC)
  • Advanced Method Technician Certification (AMTC)

The training consists of four components. You are granted access to all four components when you register for injection training:

The Education Program for Immunization Competencies (EPIC) Online Course is provided by the Canadian Paediatric Society that is CCCEP accredited and is designed for all health care professionals who administer vaccines.
  • All EPIC registrations includes free access to a new module titled “Moving to Acceptance: Strategies to address concerns about vaccines” that must be completed and is required for AMC, AMSC, and AMTC certification.
  • Licensed pharmacy technicians (AMTC) only need to take modules 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 12 of the EPIC course.

Saskatchewan Specific Module: Administration of Drugs by Injection is an online module specific to administering drugs by advanced method in Saskatchewan (required for AMC, AMSC, and AMTC certification).

Upon successful completion of this module and the live workshop, you will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate appropriate infection control procedures and aseptic technique when preparing injections.
  2. Landmark appropriately the injection site for intramuscular (IM) and subcutaneous (SC) injections.
  3. Describe and perform all necessary steps needed to prepare and administer an intramuscular (IM) and subcutaneous (SC) injection.

Initial Live Injection Training Workshop:

  • A 2.5-hour hands-on training workshop where participants will learn the theory and put into practice the skills of administering subcutaneous and intramuscular injections.

Parts 1, 2, and 3 must be completed prior to attending the hands-on training workshop.

EPIC (part 1) is accredited for 22.5 CEUs and parts 2-4 are accredited for 5 CEUs for a total of 27.5 CEUs.

Upon licensure with SCPP as a pharmacist, pharmacists must attend a Live Injection Refresher Workshop through USask CPE to transition from AMSC to AMC. Pharmacists cannot administer injections after licensure until they have transitioned to AMC.
